ARTIST STATEMENT/ BIOGRAPHY/ CONTACT Artist statement 'The untold want by life and land ne'er granted, Now voyager sail thou forth to seek and find'. The Untold Want Walt Whitman 1819 - 1892 BACKSTORY Hidden histories are the central focus of my work. A substantial personal iconography, accumulated over many years, includes knots and braids, human/animal hybrids, insects and arthropods, masks, tattoos and silhouettes, all of which serve as metaphors for marginalisation or invisibility. Reflecting on three decades of my own creative history, the current series,  Backstory , consolidates and recontextualizes key motifs and symbols from disparate bodies of work, introducing subtle shifts of meaning and new directions. No longer helpless descendants of Rapunzel, trapped in ivory towers with hope and desire held forever in check, my protagonists turn resolutely towards the horizon, intent on finding their own paths.
